Melissa Long Necklace

QAR 490,00

By Tonia Moraitaki

The Melissa Long Necklace is a fashionable piece inspired by the symbolism of the bee in Greek tradition and mythology. The bee, known as Melissa in Greek, represents wisdom and diligence, embodying the virtues of hard work and productivity. And it is cute!

Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this necklace features a charm made of Sterling Silver 925, finished in a high-quality vermeil  plating and a long chain that allows for versatile styling options.

In Greek Mythology, the nymphs Amalthea and Melissa were entrusted with the care of baby Zeus when he had to stay hidden in a cave in Crete. Amalthea, often depicted as a goat, provided Zeus with milk, while Melissa, whose name means "bee" in Greek, fed him honey. The milk and honey provided by these nymphs nourished Zeus, allowing him to grow strong and eventually become the king of the mythological Greek Gods.

All handcrafted objects need love and care to maintain their beauty.
For jewelry that has been gold-, silver- or rhodium-plated expect the plating to fade over time. This happens unavoidably to all plated jewelry but with extra care you can extend the life of the plating. The speed at which the plating fades depends on multiple factors like your skincare products, level of perspiration or even your skin PH. Avoid contact with soap, perfume, hairspray, lotion or other face or body products. We recommend that you remove your jewelry when showering, swimming, washing your hands, styling your hair or using cleaning agents, as this will damage the plating.

For solid sterling silver jewelry, expect the silver to tarnish. Silver is a metal that reacts to air and humidity and therefore gets oxidized. It is an unavoidable natural process but thankfully it can be reversed (see below how to clean your jewelry).

Be extra careful with jewelry with stones and pearls. Stones are fragile and may break, crack or get scratched.

Store your jewelry away from direct sunlight and in their original packaging or in velvet jewelry boxes to avoid damage from air, humidity and contact with other items. Make sure that the storage area has low humidity. You can place a piece of chalk or a small bag of silica gel in the storage area to minimize tarnish.

Clean your sterling silver or fine jewelry by soaking them for a few minutes in warm soapy water. Then rinse well and gently rub them with a soft microfiber cloth. Do not using paper towels or harder cloths to avoid scratching. Do not immerse your gemstone or pearl jewelry to jewelry cleaning or polishing solutions.

If in doubt, it is preferable to seek professional cleaning services from a goldsmith or a reputed jewelry shop.

Tonia is the owner and creative designer of Tonia Moraitaki Jewelry Brand.
Despite her degree in Business Administration and a career in finance, Tonia soon realized that she is a more creative soul.
After attending jewelry design school, she launched her first jewelry collection in 2015.

Tonia's current work includes pieces that she has either designed, composed but also pieces that she has made from scratch, using the lost wax casting technique. She first shapes the design into the wax and then turns it in to a finished piece of jewelry from a precious metal. Her inspiration is nature, people and of course history.

All of the supplies that are used in the Tonia Moraitaki collections (such as chains, components, semi-precious stones, precious stones, etc.) are sourced in Greece.
