The “Martis bracelet” or just “Martis” (the word for March in Greek) is an ancient custom to celebrate the beginning of Spring. It is believed it dates back to ancient Greece and it is known all over the Balkans. It is typically made from red and white threads or cords that are woven or braided together and tied around the wrist.

Nowadays, Greeks wear their March bracelets on the first day of March and keep them on usually until the end of the month or until they see the first swallow returning for spring. Then they hang it on a tree so the birds can use the thread to build their nests.

But the March bracelets are believed to have another important job to do: Since March signifies the beginning of Spring in Greece and the hope for warm days and lots of sun, the bracelets are there also to protect from the burning sun. Wear your March bracelet but put your sunscreen too, just in case :)

We are open 7 days a week, excluding holidays. All orders with items in stock are shipped as soon as possible, in most cases on the next business day. Exception are the bespoke items and made-to-order pieces that have different shipping times.

QATAR
Shipping within Qatar is free and you will receive your order on the next business day.
There is also the option of same-day delivery, but you must place your order before 12.00 noon (local time). A flat fee of 40 QAR applies.

GCC
At the moment we ship only to Qatar and the neighboring Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, but we will start shipping to more destinations soon.
All orders are shipped with DHL Express. Allow 3-5 business days for delivery. For orders over 1000 QAR, shipping is free. For all other orders, there is a flat shipping cost of 99 QAR, that will be added to your total cost at checkout.

RETURNS
We are confident that you will love your purchase, but if for some reason you don’t, you can send it back to us within 15 days of receipt and you will get an exchange item or store credit.

MARA KOKKINOU

Mara Kokkinou was born in Thessaloniki. She studied Jewelry Design and Production at MOKUME institute and opened her own workshop in Naousa, Greece in 1999.

Since then, she has been designing and making her own creations, discovering materials and textures that intrigue her. She has taken part in various exhibitions in Athens and Northern Greece and she is also teaching at jewelry seminars all around Greece.

Mara also studied Art Therapy and for the past ten years she has been offering her services pro bono to various groups and organizations that need her expertise. She does not stop educating herself about various aspects of jewelry design and the use of alternative materials, so she can evolve her own design style.

For Mara, every piece of art is the extension of the artist’s hand offering a friendly touch and connection to her soul.
